Happy IDAHOBIT
Today is the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersex Discrimination and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). Each year on this day we pause to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community and to stand against the discrimination the community still faces throughout the world.
In 2022 I proudly came out as bisexual through a post on our website with the hope of raising awareness of the intersectionality of autism and the LGBTQIA+ community. Today, however the world is a very different place with the resurgence of discriminatory laws and hateful views that now prevent much of the LGBTQIA+ community from enjoying what many take for granted. It is because of this that IDAHOBIT is especially important to acknowledge this year.
This year’s theme is The Power of Communities. It is in this spirit that I would like to encourage everyone to show your support for LGBTQIA+ autistics and the wider LGBTQIA+ community and stand against discrimination and hate.
Today let’s celebrate and support human diversity and show the world that LGBTQIA+ individuals are welcome and safe in our communities.
